My parents recently moved to a new home. They decided to downsize and purchase a smaller beach house for the two of them. They moved into a lovely ranch not too far away from my apartment. I am able to visit them as often as I like, which is a plus. I occasionally get surprise visits with dinner in hand by my mother, which I welcome. After moving in, my parents were heavily discussing updating the heating and cooling systems in the current house. They wanted something highly efficient. Every time I made it over for dinner, it seemed this was their topic of conversation. They were debating over radiant heated floors and a smart temperature control. With radiant heated floors, water slowly moves through pipes beneath the floorboards. This process heats the entire house at an efficient speed. It can save on utility bills because of its slow heating pace. It also avoids the undesirable cold floors. On the other hand, a smart temperature control would save money too, because my parents could control the temperature from their smart phones. They could lower the temperature while they are away and turn the temperature back up only when they are on their way back home. This would avoid the unnecessary wasted energy, while also providing accessibility plus consistent, comfortable room temperatures. They are still debating over which heating and air conditioning component to invest in, so I am interested to see which one will win!
