With the current state of the economy and the high unemployment rate, many people have fallen on harder times. And, to make matters worse, there is an overload of college graduates looking for jobs. It seems that there are twenty applicants for every job out there. I was sure I was going to be looking for a long time, however, I seemed to have gotten lucky! I found a job with a corporation downtown. We all worked in cubicles on one floor which made for easy communication between co-workers. The first day was amazing. It was a lot of information to take in and I was feeling legitimately run down by the end of the day. When I got home, I absolutely didn’t feel well. I thought maybe I was getting sick on my first week of work! After a few days I noticed that when I got to the office I was great for the first hour. Then the HVAC program clicked on and I became sick to my stomach. Later in the afternoon after hours of of dealing with the heating system, I had a horrible headache! My heart sank, it came to me that it was something in the heating vents that was making me sick. I have pretty bad allergies and I knew that I needed to take the rest of the day off. I didn’t want to say anything, for fear of losing my job, however it only got worse each day that I sat in the room with that HVAC system running. I knew if I said anything about the filters, I could lose my job. But, then my boss came up to me and asked if I was feeling ok. He could tell I was ill and was concerned about me. When I explained about the HVAC system and my thoughts on why I may be sick, he immediately called to have the system cleaned. What a great job and a great boss.
