To me, there’s nothing like a good steak that has been cooked over an open fire. I know that it’s much easier and even faster to just cook using the oven or stove, but to me, the flame gives food a distinct flavor that I really enjoy. A couple of times a year, I have a dinner party where I invite all of my friends over to cook this way. Last weekend was when we did it most recently, and it sure was a cold night! As we gathered around the firepit, everyone was eager to get the steaks cooked because it was so cold. After a couple of minutes, I noticed that several of my friends had disappeared and headed inside so that they could soak in the warm air of the heating system. The couple of people who stuck it out with me were real troopers. By the end, we rushed inside to eat and get a fire going in the fireplace. While we could have just stuck to using the heater, there’s something really great about standing in front of the fireplace on a chilly night. It warms the bones and creates a nice atmosphere to spend time with friends. The night ended up being great! We enjoyed our steaks, and after that we drank some wine while sitting around the fireplace. This is an absolute favorite tradition of mine! I love taking advantage of the cold weather to cook over an open fire. These nights always make me wish that winters lasted a little longer. There’s nothing quite like good friends, good food, and a fire to keep warm.
