When people start complaining about the cost of food in the grocery store, they should really consider what all has gone into getting it there. Even if you are a home gardener, you have no idea the time, labor, and cost involved in large scale. Whether you are a farmer that raises crops or livestock, there are many factors that go into the whole process. One I never considered was the need for and HVAC system. Those who grow crops, in many cases, start plants as seedlings in large greenhouses. Because this process starts while it is still cold outside, these greenhouses need climate control. Thankfully, there are companies out there that specialize in renting large scale HVAC units. This works out great because the farmer can pay a rental fee for a few months and not be responsible for any of the upkeep and maintenance on the units. If they had to purchase the units, they would need to pass that cost along to consumers too and elevate the price in the store even more. When it comes to livestock, places like poultry farms need to make sure that there is proper ventilation and humidity control. Without that, bacteria, mildew, and other contaminants can affect not only the health of the chickens but the workers too. When you have vast amounts of birds in one building they can produce all kinds of unwanted things. The health departments regularly check the air quality in these facilities to make sure that the consumers will be safe when purchasing the eggs and meat from these animals. Next time you buy meat or vegetables from the grocery store you should take all of this into account before complaining too much about the price.
