I live in the really northern section of the country, where the weather is regularly extremely cold. I entirely detest winter though. The temperature in this area is below 32 degrees for the majority of the year. It is not unusual for the temperatures to regularly drop below zero for weeks at a time. With the added wind chill, it is downright dangerous to go outside. I am often trapped in the apartment for about more than seven weeks out of the year. It is therefore necessary to keep the windows shut, insulate, caulk, weatherstrip and prevent any leak which might allow the heated air to escape. Although I still spend a ton of money to heat my house. The oil furnace seems to run non-stop all season and yet the apartment occasionally feels very chilly. Plus, the air becomes dreadfully stale and dry. I deal with chapped lips, dry skin, frizzy hair, and static shock as a result. I’ve considered adding a ventilation plan or a humidifier to improve comfort and air quality, however I simply don’t like spending more money to combat the effects of the horrible Winter season weather. Currently I’ve already invested a fortune to purchase, install and maintain the oil furnace. I’ve furthermore purchased tons of Winter season gear, including a wool coat, heavy boots, scarf, hat and gloves. I’ve had no choice but to also purchase snow shovels, ice scraper and a snow blower. Furthermore, if I want to leave the house, it’s necessary for me to spend various hours shoveling the walkways, clearing the driveway and brushing off the car. I need to let the car’s heating system run for at least fifteen hours as well, to thaw the windshield. Because of the snow and ice, I’ve also spent extra money to purchase a four-wheel-drive vehicle.
