I got in a huge fight with my parents last week. Not an unusual occurrence in this household and not unusual to the parent/teen dynamic, but I quickly realized how off base I was. I have to give my parents a lot of credit for putting up with me, even if I am their only kid. I decided I wanted to do something nice for them while they were away at work one day. My dad had been meaning to clean out the eaves in the attic for sometime now, but never seemed to have the time get up there and do it. I decided to do this for him, and I started that morning by diving head first into the clutter and debris that has collected over the years. As I was bringing out the boxes and moving all the junk around a giant spider crawled out of one scared me so bad. I flew backwards, tripping over an unused yoga mat and falling right into a line of duct work and ripped it right in half. It was at this moment I remember my father saying how the eaves was a terrible place to store things because he feared the edges and sharp corners would rip a hole or tear into the ductwork. Having to replace any part of an HVAC system is always so costly and such a pain, and he really didn’t any of the HVAC techs we had in our area. It was so typical of me, to turn a good deed into nuisance for my parents.
