What number of people do you suppose can say they’ve lived through a tornado? Well, that depends on where and who you ask. In the far northeast of the country, I doubt anyone even knows what a tornado looks or sounds like up close… Meanwhile in the midwestern region, tornadoes are as commonplace as deer on the side of the highway! Like an unsuspecting deer staring at you as you make your way down the interstate, knowing that the tornado is there doesn’t make it any less frightening if you collide with it. For me, I spent too long staring at a tornado cutting through village and not enough time running to the basement for cover. By some miracle, I was able to hide in our bathtub, and listen as our home was practically torn off the ground around me. Then when the chaos was over, I stared in awe as our condo was nothing more than a few foundation support beams and little chunks of wall… The disaster was real, but there was something fantastic in it: I work at a heating and air conditioning company. The damages meant I was about to have our work cut out for us for at least two months from now! As people rebuilt their homes, they would need new ductwork installed, and new heating and air conditioning components put into structure. It also meant that I would make more than enough money while every one of us were in these renovations that I could afford having our own condo rebuilt – and I’d save thousands of dollars in labor costs by handling the upgrade myself! It’s fantastic to have an idea for events such as this, but it’s even better to have an occupation that’s perfect for times like this. I suppose the storm had just ended at the time, but as I looked out at all the wrecked homes, all I could see was chance to rebuild and acquire some business!
