I was browsing the appliance area at a local store while my fiance was picking out shoes. Although there isn’t anything the two of us need to replace or buy at the moment, I decided to look at what kind of new technology is out now just out of pure curiosity.. I remember rolling my eyes when internet accessible cell phones were named “smart phones” numerous years ago and thought the name would never stick. I was wrong–now “smart” is used as to label anything that can be expanded with some basic WIFI and internet connectivity capabilities. Refrigerators are a nice example, the “smart fridges” have a touch screen on them with varying features and functions from entirely controllable temperature sensitivity to remote controls via a cell phone application. Then my eyes found the “smart temperature controls” for house HVAC systems. Aside from touchscreen capabilities and cell phone app controls, you can schedule cooling cycles to increase efficiency and you can even let it run on it’s own auto cycle where it senses the best times to turn the A/C on and off and at what intensity to run it at in any given moment. This is based on any number of variables the plan can detect outdoor and indoor temperature fluctuations and building occupancy levels at particular times of the day. Although I don’t have the money budgeted for one, I would like to get a smart temperature control some day. The thought of being able to turn my air conditioning system on from work with just my cell phone is charming. That means I never have to get out of bed just to adjust the temperature control. The possibilities are so tempting!
