I am a student enrolled in college in the northeastern region of the country, and I rent an condo just off campus. There is indefinitely limited parking available on campus, which usually forces myself and others to walk nearly a mile to reach my various classrooms. Unfortunately, from November until the end of April, the weather in this space is utterly cold, wet and snowy. I have a lot of heavy textbooks that I pack into a backpack that i must carry through these weather conditions. I make sure to dress in heavy boots, the thickest of coats, knitted-fitted hat and a scarf, however I still seem to not be warm enough and end up shivering the entire walk. I am always in a rush to get inside the heated buildings on campus. Sadly a few of the classrooms are not kept at a comfortable temperature. In my biology classroom, there is a group of men who continually open the windows. It doesn’t occur to them that they are wasting a tremendous amount of energy, welcoming in freezing cold air like that, and making everyone else miserable. I can’t even imagine the cost of running the heating unit at maximum capacity while the windows are wide open. I usually wear my coat while in class, because it is so terribly cold. I don’t understand why the teacher allows these men to make all the people uncomfortable, however I sometimes get up and close the windows. This often turns into a sizable argument with the group of men. I really need to sizzled up and enjoy the heating luxury since I have such a long walk to and from my car. Addition to not being able to stand the thought of the energy waste.
