I have been a third grade teacher for the past two years now and I really love my job. Not only is it a fun and exciting job teaching little kids each day, but it makes me feel fulfilled. Over the summer the school was totally rebuilt, now my feelings are starting to change each day that passes. It’s nothing that drastic per say, but I am having a problem with the heating and cooling system in the classroom. For some reason that I don’t understand, the contractors who built this new school installed the heating and cooling unit right next to the front door where all the kids come in and out of. I can’t count how many times I have had to call the schools HVAC repair specialist to come and fish out crayons and pieces of paper shoved down the heating and cooling unit. The little ones are also quite sneaky, so when I am busy helping a student one will go over and turn the cooling all the way up. After ten minutes or so when it begins to feel freezing, and it is getting old fast. I miss the old heating and cooling unit that was half the size of this “new” one and I was able to control the temperature settings on my phone. You would think that the school being rebuilt would mean that only the newest and most state of the art appliances, but nope. I might have to start thinking about teaching older aged kids, ones that are a little less obsessed with messing with the heating and cooling unit.
