The day my swimming pool got contaminated, I knew it meant the beginning of a long, painful downturn in my luck. Generally, you won’t hear me talk about luck too often, because I know we make our own luck as we go. Lately though, there has been such a series of calamities that I wonder if bad luck really is the thing. As I mentioned, it started with the pool which went from clear blue to murky pond yellow within 48 hours.
It seemed to stump the pool man as to its underlying problem… He shocked it with a fat dose of chemical compounds, plus I while I waited the week for it to work, I relied a lot more on our cooling system. I spent a lot of time in the pool, which really helped cut down on my overall A/C usage, but now that was going back up again. More air conditioning meant higher energy bills at the end of the week, but this time of year was terribly hot. I was pretty liberal with the temperature control during this time, plus perhaps using it too much too hastily was what broke it.
Long story short, the AC stopped worked while the pool was out of commission. At which point I realized I couldn’t even open up any of the windows for ventilation because they had been nailed shut! There was a phase of about 4 nights where I had no form of cooling that I could use at all. I spent a lot of time at the Barnes plus Noble, using their AC.
