As a school gym educator, I can see very clearly just how far some students are willing to take it only to get out of class early.
Over the years i have had students try every play in the book to get out of gym class, but there is one student who will always stick out in my mind, but one afternoon, this student had the bright idea to break the cooling system to get out of class.
It was pretty warm outside, and also the A/C component was already having some trouble running, then as a school rule, if the A/C component or oil furnace is not working as it should, then students have the choice to kneel out of gym class! The school doesn’t want any legal problems if the kids are too miserable in the summer time or too chilly in the winter. This student of mine, unknown to me, decided to throw a baseball into the HVAC duct of the cooling system. The cooling system was making some crazy banging sounds for a while plus then stopped working all together. I had some kids in the past from the Heating and Air Conditioning program come check it out, plus they told myself and others they weren’t sure what was wrong with the A/C unit. I knew they were just Heating and Air Conditioning students, so I called over their teacher, he checked the air filters and the fans before finding the baseball. He said there was no way somebody accidentally ruined the cooling system, so I knew there had to have been some foul play. I sat my entire class down and interrogated them about the A/C unit, after all it was school property. I didn’t really care to be honest, but I wanted to know which student was clever enough to stall the A/C component without really breaking it.
