I grew up in the far northern regions of our country, where I had no method what a heat pump was even used for.
The two of us had a giant boiler that produced radiant heat throughout our entire home.
The Summer was always tepid however it wasn’t all that bad. My dad would install a few small window cooling systems that when combined with lots of fans worked just fine for us. So then, when I moved south, I had a whole new heating and cooling system to get used to. Let me tell you, I could not have been more pleasantly surprised by the value of the Heating and Air Conditioning heat pump. Our Winter is nothing compared to what I dealt with back up north. There is no snow and the lows rarely get to cold. But, we still require heat and I wasn’t positive that a heat pump could do the trick. I hastily found out not only does it produce ample heat, it does so in a remarkable fashion. When I flip the climate control unit from cool to heat, the heat pump reverses the flow of the refrigerant in the system. Instead of trapping the heat and blasting it outside, the heat pump uses the refrigerant to extract heat energy from the outside air. Amazingy, it can do this down to temperatures in the forties without using any supplemental heat. Not just that however our heat pump even heats the water in our tepid tub! There is a valve that takes all the wasted heat energy and uses it to heat the water in our spa. And, it does so with much better efficiency than the oil furnace in our spa. I just can’t think how awesome our heat pump works. But, it does it’s best task in efficiently cooling our home.
