Building new home, sold old home, living in modular home for now

My wife and I decided a couple years ago to build our own home.

  • We had been on the market for a new home for years and we were simply not finding what we were looking for.

After several discussions, we decided to just build our own home. We ran some numbers and figured it would be best for us to sell our current home to pay for the construction of the new one. The only problem with that, of course, is that we would be homeless until the new house was built. I remembered that my brother, a construction worker, was always talking about how when he would have construction projects far away that he would live in a repurposed shipping container home. That didn’t sound ideal, obviously, but from what he had told me it was more than a cargo container with a bed in it. He said that these shipping container homes had custom welding and looked like little houses. I researched shipping container homes for sale and found some pretty nice options for a reasonable price. My wife and I decided on a temporary shipping container home while our dream home was being built. We sold our previous home and moved into our repurposed shipping container. I have to admit; the shipping container home was really nice. My wife liked the shipping container home too, although she would never admit it. Until the construction of our home is complete, we will be enjoying our in-between house- our repurposed shipping container! I think even after the construction is finished that we might keep the shipping container home as a guest home. It seems like a shame to give it up, the shipping container home is cute and would add to the property value as a guest house.
