Starting a new home, sold seasoned home, living in modular apartment for now

My wife and I decided a couple years ago to build our own home.

  • Both of us had been on the market for a new apartment for years and the two of us were simply not finding what the two of us were looking for.

After many discussions, the two of us decided to just build our own home. Both of us ran some numbers and figured it would be best for us to sell our new apartment to pay for the construction of the new one. The only problem with that, of course, is that the two of us would be homeless until the new apartment was built. I remembered that our brother, a construction worker, was regularly talking about how when he would have construction projects far away that he would live in a repurposed shipping tote home. That didn’t sound ideal, apparently, however from what he had told myself and others it was more than a cargo tote with a bed in it. He said that these shipping tote homes had custom welding and looked love little houses. I researched shipping tote homes for sale and found some pretty nice options for a adequate price. My wife and I decided on a temporary shipping tote apartment while our dream apartment was being built. Both of us sold our previous apartment and moved into our repurposed shipping container. I have to admit; the shipping tote apartment was unquestionably nice. My wife liked the shipping tote apartment too, but she would never confess it. Until the construction of our apartment is complete, the two of us will be enjoying our in-between house- our repurposed shipping container! I suppose even after the construction is finished that the two of us might keep the shipping tote apartment as a guest home. It seems love a shame to give it up, the shipping tote apartment is cute and would add to the property value as a guest house.
